Connective Tissue Massage Increases Endorphin levels
Connective Tissue Massage produced relief of pain and increases in
microcirculation in a number of vascular beds. The concentration of plasma
beta-endorphins has been measure in 12 volunteers before and 5, 30, and 90
minutes after a 30-minute session of Connective Tissue Massage.
There was a moderate mean increase in 16 per cent in beta-endorphin levels,
lasting for about one hour with a maximum in the test 5 minutes after
termination of the massage. It is assumed that release of beta-endorphins is
linked with the pain relief and feeling of warmth and well-being associated with
the treatment.
