Magnesium
Magnesium helps keep calcium in balance within the system. Magnesium helps put calcium into our bones, preventing osteoporosis, and Magnesium helps remove Calcium from our soft tissues eliminating some forms of arthritis. Magnesium does this by suppressing PTH and stimulating calcitonin. A magnesium deficiency will prevent this chemical action from taking place in our bodies, and no amount of calcium can correct it. While magnesium helps our body absorb and retain calcium, too much calcium prevents magnesium from being absorbed. The thinking behind this is that magnesium aids in metabolizing
carbohydrates and amino acids, improves bone growth, and regulates body
pH—all of which are significant. A deficiency of magnesium is known to
lower the ability of the body to absorb and use calcium and
phosphorus—and these are the two primary bone-building minerals. What is the best way to get extra magnesium?Eating a variety of whole grains, legumes, and vegetables (especially dark-green, leafy vegetables) every day will help provide recommended intakes of magnesium and maintain normal levels. Increasing dietary intake of magnesium can often restore mildly depleted magnesium levels. However, increasing dietary intake of magnesium may not be enough to restore very low magnesium levels to normal. Oral magnesium supplements combine magnesium with another substance such as a salt. Magnesium supplements in order of decreasing magnesium content are magnesium oxide, magnesium carbonate and magnesium sulfate. Magnesium has also been shown to play a role in controlling blood pressure and in diabetes. Some of our Moist Heat wraps for Arthritis ....
