Children are more likely to suffer sports injuries than adults since
they are often more vulnerable because of immature reflexes,
underdeveloped coordination and the inability to recognize and evaluate
risk. Each year about 3.2 million children between the ages of 5 and 14
are injured while participating in athletic activities, accounting for
about 40 percent of all sports injuries, according to the Gale
Encyclopedia of Medicine. According to the American Academy of
