Plant Description:
The tree is a small evergreen that
grows to 20 feet. It has serrated oval leaves, thorns and very
fragrant flowers.
Aromatherapy Use:
Widely used in beauty care. Lemon essential oil cleanses, refreshes, cools
and stimulates. It is an astringent and antiseptic oil. Lemon essential oil is
useful for oily skin due to it's astringent properties. It can be used to
lighten dull, stained hands or to tone and condition nails and cuticles. Lemon
essential oil has a number of very important properties, such as the ability to
stimulate the immune system and to increase the production of white corpuscles.
Lemon has the ability to counteract acidity in the body. The citric acid is
neutralized during digestion, giving rise to carbonates and bicarbonates of
potassium and calcium. Lemon essential oil is useful in counteracting gastric
acidity, reducing pain and ulcers.
