Latin name: Salvia sclerea
Family - Labiatae
Region = Morocco, France, Russian

Aroma = Warm, woody, nut like aroma,
herbaceous, with a subtle fruity note.
Plant Description
Clary Sage essential oil comes from a perennial herb with large hairy
purple tinted green leaves. Not to be confused with its cousin, salvia
officinalis or, common sage, Clary Sage can be distinguished by the size of its
leaves, which are much larger than the common variety, and by the bluish white
blooms it bears in late summer. Small blue flower grow out form large bracts,
pinkish in color. The bush reaches four feet in height.
Aromatherapy Uses
Clary Sage essential oil soothes, relaxes and warms. It is a generally
uplifting essential oil when used in moderation. Contains a hormone-like
compound similar to estrogen that regulates hormonal balance resulting in it use
for moderating PMS symptoms . Massage Clary Sage essential oil on muscles and on
abdomen before and during menstruation. Induces feeling of well-being. Enhances
dream state and has sensual properties.
When using aromatherapy to address physical conditions, this essential oil is
good for hair and skin treatment and treating wrinkles

Precaution = Safety Precautions: >Non-toxic but
avoid in 1st trimester of pregnancy; may stimulate contractions.
Overuse can cause headaches. Do not use if history of low blood
pressure. Avoid drinking alcohol if using Clary Sage (narcotic effect). Avoid
with history of estrogen-dependent cancer.
Interesting aside: The oil is used in the production of wines
with a Muscatel flavor. It is rumored that German wine makers have used
Clary sage to improve the flavor of cheap wine. - Fact or Fiction?
