| | Every day uses of essential oils
Decoders have information on many of the popular essential
oils and can be used by looking up a use then seeing what oil is
good for that use. Or if you already are interest in a particular
oil you can find uses for it. The Decoder will also tell
you about sensitivities and precautions.
Skin and body care with Essential Oils
LAVENDER essential oil works miracles as a soothing skin tonic. Add 1-5 drops per ounce of warm water, soak compresses, and place them on the face or on tired parts of the body!
It's easy to purify and tone your skin with an essential oil facial.
Just fill your sink about a third full with hot water, add a few
drops of Rosewood,LAVENDER, ROSE,
or CLARY SAGE essential oils and lean over the steam with a towel draped over your head (making a tent to hold in the steam). Breathe deeply and enjoy the aroma as the essential oils rejuvenate your skin, lungs and sinuses. A minute or so at a time is best, uncover your head than repeat.
If you suffer from Athlete's foot, use some undiluted
TEA TREE
1-2 drops of ROSEMARY on
your hairbrush before brushing promotes growth and thickness. Rosemary,
by the way, is said to increase alertness and enhance memory.
On a hot summer day, sponge the body with cool water that
has been enhanced with 1 drop each of EUCALYPTUS, PEPPERMINTand LAVENDER
Add distilled water along with your favorite oil or blend
to an empty spray bottle to create a natural facial toner (2-3 drops per
ounce), body mist (7-10 drops per ounce) or room spray (20-25 drops per
ounce). Shake before use.
Breath freshener
You can have instant fresh breath by licking a single
drop of PEPPERMINTEssential Oil from the back
of your hand.
Perfumery
Make your own perfume by blending your favorite essential oils, be sure
to include a fixative base note such as SANDALWOOD,
FRANKINCENSE, PATCHOULI, or CEDARWOOD; and
diluting them with alcohol (perfumers alcohol is best but Vodka is much
easier to find and works nearly as well). Use 1 part essential oils to 9
parts alcohol mix thoroughly.
Bath
Make any shower feel like being in a fragrant spa. Place 2 to 5 drops
of EUCALYPTUS,
LEMON, and LAVENDER.
in the shower or on the shower walls before turning on the water. The
steam will carry the essential oils, bathing your entire body in aromas.
Add 5-15 drops of your favorite oils to milk or cream
before adding it to the bath. This will help to disperse the oils into the
water, and you will enjoy a highly effective skin emollient, known since
ancient times!
Place 2 to 5 drops (of
an oil that's healthy for skin) and a spoonful of sea salt in your bath
water for an exotic and rejuvenating mineral bath.Household uses of essential oils
Smelly shoes can be a huge embarrassment. Get rid of that
odor by placing cotton balls in them when not in use. Just a few drops ofLEMON,
GERANIUM or
CEDARWOOD essential oil can bring relief!
If you have a sauna or Jacuzzi, we recommend EUCALYPTUS, and GREEN
MYRTLE. 1-2 drops per cup of water for the
sauna and 3 drops per person for the Jacuzzi.Got bugs? Many pests avoid BASIL, PEPPERMINT,
LEMONGRASS, GERANIUM,
CEDARWOOD and CITRONELLA. Add these essential oils to your diffuser to chase off unwanted insects.
If you have a pet but you don't have the flea collar,
don't go out and buy one yet! Try this instead. Soak a short cord or soft
rope with TEA TREE,
adding LAVENDER if you like, roll up into a
handkerchief and loosely tie it around the animal's neck.
For some recent research you can go here and read about the use of Clove bud oil on house mites,
If you are suffering from a cold add 5-6 drops of EUCALYPTUS, BASIL, MYRTLE, TEATREE,
or ROSEMARY
to your vaporizer or inhaler. You can also use a bowl of hot water. Cover
your head and the bowl with a towel and enjoy the soothing goodness!
Free yourself from
scrubbing with the help of essential oils. Essential oils act as solvents
(they dissolve sticky compounds) because they are volatile. Just use
a few drops of any citrus oil like orange
or lemon, etc..) and
a few cups of hot water to soak hard-to-remove dirt. We have found nothing
more effective at cleaning stained coffee pots and baked on foods. Works
in the dishwasher too. ORANGE
essential oil is an excellent
cleaner and solvent. Use a spoonful in water for your floors and counters or
to wash out your fridge and oven.
If you enjoy sending scented stationary but don't enjoy
paying the costs to buy them, then listen up! Seal ordinary stationary in a
plastic bag, along with a cotton ball sprinkled with a few drops of
Essential Oil, leave overnight. Of course, you can also scent book marks,
art work and a million other things that work better when scented! For some fragrant laundry add a few drops of your
favorite oil to the final rinse and then hang dry your clothing. You can
also dab oils on a cloth and add it to the dryer or add 5 drops to your
softener.
Emotional support with essential oils
Relieve nervous tension with CHAMOMILE,
LAVENDER, CLARY
SAGE, MARJORAM, NEROLI, or
YLANG YLANG.
Clear, pure essential oils can be directly applied to
your pillow (1-3 drops) for soothing relaxation.
Energize your body and mind using PEPPERMINT or SPEARMINT , ROSEMARY,
the Evergreen oils
or any of the CITRUS Oils. Diffuse or apply to your temples and neck
or even blend with unscented body lotion.
Jet-Lagged? Inhale PEPPERMINT
or EUCALYPTUS pure or straight or take a bath
enhanced with a few drops of essence (10 drops maximum, less if your skin is
sensitive). LAVENDER and GERANIUM
will ease travel anxiety and CITRUSoils can
help you feel fresh again.
If you have a baby that you love to spoil, blend 1 drop ROMAN
CHAMOMILE, 1 drop LAVENDER
and 1 drop GERANIUM with 2 tablespoons of Sweet
Almond oil for a gentle massage oil. Babies
love the smell as much as your touch and attention.
