Back Pain Questions
Is good posture enough?
People often still have back pain while sitting with a back
support. This is because there are three main components to spinal pain: Load,
Movement, & Posture. Load is the weight one puts through his/her spine; Movement
refers to the effect of excessive or inadequate motion on the body's circulatory
and neuro-musculo-skeletal system; Posture refers to the curve of the spine.
Not everyone can avoid back and neck symptoms by correcting
their posture. Cushions can only improve one's Posture.
If you exhibit any of the following symptoms, you may need more
than good posture support from your spinal care product.
- impaired tolerance for upright postures (weight-bearing loss)
- inability to stay in one posture, even a good neutral
posture, for prolonged periods of time (constrained posture intolerance)
- discomfort when furniture or supports come in contact with
your body (pressure intolerance)
Q. Why is my back often at its worst in
the morning?
A. Rest can aggravate an underlying back
problem.
People with bad backs will have muscles in
spasm, allowing fluid to build up during the night, causing pain.
When you move around fluid is squeezed out and
in a short time the back can feel better.
Q. Why does exercise help?
A. A daily swim or gentle workout is the
ticket to a pain-free life.
The trouble is if you have a back injury, once
regular exercise ceases the intermittent pain starts again.
Exercise only relieves pain by decreasing the
likelihood of muscles going into a cramp.
Q. Does age affect back problems?
A. People of a mature age respond to treatment
more quickly and easily than most other age groups.
By the time a person reaches 65 the muscles
begin to weaken and take on less stress, so muscle spasms are weaker.
