Friendship and Oral Health is a beautiful project that stems from the concern of two faculty members at the School of Dentistry of the Universidad del Desarrollo, Chile. Today they are pursuing their postgraduate studies in School of Dental Medicine at University of Connecticut. It was in this institution where they gave birth to the idea of helping communities most in need of Chile using international cooperation between faculty and students of different countries. Jigar Gandhi, student of Stony Brook who participated in the 2009 project, managed, with the help of his fraternity Sigma Beta Rho, the donation of 6 laptop computers for children to use in school; they will be delivered in January 2010 to the community of Curarrehue. Thanks Jigar.
Stony Brook Unversity donated soccer equipments for children of the community Curarrehue. Dr. Dan Colossi, and students from the University, conducted the official delivery to Mayor of Curarrehue, Sr. Hector Carrasco.
Drs. Carolina Rojas and Alan Lurie traveled to Colombia to participate in the International Congress of Public Health, (The Network: Towards Unity for Health). In this meeting they presented the workshop "Friendship and Oral Health: An International Collaboration in Oral Health Education and Treatment. A pilot project. " The presentation had a great reception in the participants and new ideas were born for be better project.
